Limited edition specialty robusta

Commonly processed as instant coffee, robusta is a coffee variety that’s known for its resilience and higher yield. As this variety is almost always sold as commodity coffee and roasted dark, it is rare to find unique taste profiles. This limited edition natural-processed robusta, grown and harvested by Auntie Leonilda (or Yolie as she is called in the community), is different and quite an exception to the rule. It’s little wonder this microlot was distinguished among the Top 10 at the recent Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC).

Compared to the usual robusta plantations, Auntie Yolie’s farm sits quite high at an elevation of 1000 meters above sea level (masl) in Davao Oriental, Southern Philippines — making this brew really full-bodied and nuanced which reminds us of Filipino childhood treats like rice krispies, piaya (muscovado pressed pastry), polvorón, and ampaw (sweet puffed rice).

But what makes this coffee truly special is its nuances of bourbon whisky and Japanese sencha tea. We are proud to have pre-launched this coffee at the 2022 Beanstock Coffee Festival in Vancouver, which sold out within the first two hours.

Great for espressos, this also makes an amazing brew on French press or moka pot —best paired with your favourite Filipino dessert (ours is cassava cake) anytime of the year!
